The city has been marked by the historical and cultural legacy of the Jewish community, which dates back to the 15th century. The capital of Germany cannot be understood without the traumatic events that took place during the III Reich and World War II, many of which are directly related to the Jewish community.
Through this Historical Tour, you will learn about Berlin's Jewish past and the city's history during the III Reich. You will start the tour at the Reichstag, an impressive building that was once the political center of Nazi Germany. After that, you will enter the Jewish Quarter, a place of great cultural interest whose origins go back to the 15th century. You will see the impressive New Synagogue, which was built in the 19th century but restored after World War II, having been burned during the III Reich. In the Jewish Quarter, you will also discover the famous Stolpersteine, stones commemorating the Jewish people murdered during the Nazi regime. You will also understand the importance of the Holocaust Memorial, a symbol that remembers the victims and serves to prevent the tragic events from being forgotten.
Beyond what happened during the III Reich, in this tour you will also discover the different courtyards of the Jewish Quarter, such as the impressive Hackescher courtyard complex, or the old and historic Jewish cemetery. You will also stroll and understand the significance of streets like Grosse Hamburger Strasse or August Strasse, known for its art galleries. Of course, the tour includes a visit to Dead Chicken Alley, one of the most well-known places in Berlin for its importance in urban art.
