The Academy Gallery is the second most visited museum in Italy and one of the most sought after in the world. The main reason for this is that it houses the famous David by Michelangelo, along with other works by the artist such as The Bearded Slave or Saint Matthew. Founded in the 16th century by Cosimo I de' Medici, it was initially an Academy of Fine Arts and has housed Michelangelo's famous sculpture since the 19th century.
