The Nazi occupation during World War II destroyed most European cities, especially in Poland. Krakow was not spared from the Nazi yoke. While it is physically one of the least damaged cities, as it was the seat of the Nazi General Government, this dark chapter of history lingers in the imagination and culture of the city's inhabitants.
In this Free Tour, an expert guide will help you understand the beginnings and organization of the Nazi occupation in the Polish city that was the seat of their government. You will discover the reasons why Poland was forced into it. Starting from the Basilica of St. Mary's, you will visit buildings that witnessed Holocaust atrocities, such as the Ordnungspolizei, the Market Square, or one of the Gestapo prisons. You will also learn about the places where Polish resistance or Armia Krajowa challenged the Nazis with a series of attacks and locations where significant events harshly impacted the Krakow residents, such as the Collegium Novum. The tour will conclude at the Grunwald Monument.
